Diana, Definitely, Midwives is one of his best. The Double Bind is also very good. Chris' writing is quite complex and he gets into the psychological side of his characters. He has a great website and is very accesible to his readers for discussion on his guest book.

Diana, I think you are right about the status quo and perhaps no interest in the last debate. I know I will be watching, but with much less concern for Obama giving a good showing...he has it in the bag...it might be interesting to see how McCain behaves and if he can control his temper.

All my schools in Mpls have been torn down. I went to Lowell elementery, Jordan Jr. High and North High School. The did build a new North High and the last I knew they were still using the old football field from the original site. That was many years ago so I don't know if they are still using it or not.

glad you are enjoying Julie's music. I had the chance to talk with her recently at some length and am writing a profile, which will be out in the January (I think) issue of the music magazine Dirty Linen. She' s also just finished an album with Irish singer Muireann Nic Amhloaibh, called Dual, which is really great -- I'll be writing about that on the blog. I think the CD might be on sale or on Itunes by now, or coming soon.

Diana,
if you look through the comments on my story on Julie Fowlis, you'll find a comment by me with link to an article on my blog with a short film about Julie, lots of music from Cuilidh on that. thanks for your comment -- and if that link doesn't work, please let me know and I'll send it you directly.

What part of Minneapolis do you live in? I lived in North Minneapolis until 1970 and graduated from North High School in 1966.

Thanks for your comment on my periwinkle flower. I took a walk around the block and photographed random flowers. I came upon this lone flower leaning up against the side of a mobile home and couldn't resist it. I thought it was very artistic!
